Begin / What the words mean

What is a peptide injection?

Ask for the exact medicine name. Peptide injections is a broad search phrase, so a useful answer starts with a particular product and purpose.

The name describes the substance

Think of beads joined on a short thread: a peptide is a substance built from small parts joined in a chain. The same parts make proteins. Insulin is an example of a whole peptide.

US law did not give treatments called peptide therapy their own set of rules on September 26, 2026. The exact product matters: it may be an approved medicine, a medicine lawfully made to order, or an unapproved drug.

Ask what the care is meant to address. Then ask which product is being discussed. Keep both names in your notes.

Products sold under that name differ

Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) included medicines approved by FDA on September 26, 2026.

FDA had also approved products containing tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) on September 26, 2026.

BPC-157 and ipamorelin had no product approved for use in the US on September 26, 2026.

Preparing a medicine to order is called compounding; the resulting medicine had no FDA approval on September 26, 2026.

Read a research use only label closely

A label saying research use only describes a product for research, not patient treatment. FDA warning letters said some products with that label were being sold for human treatment without drug approval (September 26, 2026).

The letters stated FDA's accusations against named companies. They were not court rulings.

For a care discussion, bring the full product name and any description you were given. Ask the clinician to explain which kind of product it is.
