Find care / Prepare for a remote visit

What does a remote visit involve?

Have your notes nearby. Give the service your location for the visit, and ask how the conversation will work.

Make room for questions in both directions

Patients must have a way to ask questions after giving their health information, under guidance adopted by the national federation of medical boards in May 2026.

The same guidance says a treatment choice from a menu, by itself, falls short of the care standard.

This guidance is intended for boards; it is not a nationwide prescribing law.

Find out whether the clinician can ask more questions about the answers you give. Ask how to add something the intake form did not cover.

Explain your location and check their permission

For remote care, the state rules depended on where you were sitting during the visit, according to Colorado guidance on September 26, 2026.

Colorado's telehealth registration route was available to eligible out-of-state clinicians on September 26, 2026.

Ask whether the clinician holds the relevant Colorado licence or registration. If you plan to travel, ask how a change of location affects the visit.

Ask where further checks would happen

Health professionals must arrange needed tests or send patients to someone who can provide them, under medical-board guidance checked on September 17, 2026.

Ask who orders the tests, who explains the results and what they cost. Ask how an office examination would be arranged if the clinician needs one.
