Find care / Prepare for an office visit
What can you ask at an office visit?
Write down who checks your health, who writes the prescription and who gives any shot. These may be different people. Ask who is doing each part.
Know the person's role
A Colorado health-service ad that named a health professional had to state the person's licence or other state permission (September 26, 2026).
At your first meeting, the health professional had to tell you their licence or other state permission out loud. Urgent situations could make that impossible.
Ask for the prescriber's full name and role. Ask who will answer questions after you leave.
For appearance treatments, ask who does the work
When a doctor or nurse practitioner assigned appearance treatments to someone without a health-care licence, Colorado required the patient to be told about that arrangement (September 26, 2026).
The patient had to be given the licensed professional's name and licence number, and had to sign a form agreeing to the arrangement.
This rule covered appearance treatments assigned to someone without a health-care licence. It did not apply to places covered by Colorado's separate health-facility law, such as licensed hospitals. Ask the office whether that exception applies there.
Ask which rule applies to the proposed care and the person carrying it out. Do not assume all office staff have the same credential.
Leave with the care and cost details
- Which exact medicine is being discussed?
- Who makes it and which pharmacy supplies it?
- What is included in today's charge?
- Who handles later questions and what do reviews cost?
Ask for a copy of the written plan. Take time to read it before agreeing to ongoing charges.
